The University of Miskolc has become a founding member of the Hungarian SpaceLab Network, a new initiative aimed at advancing space research and industry. The agreement, signed on 14 July in Budapest, brings together nine universities, the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network, and two ministries.
The network will focus on developing knowledge, infrastructure, and organizational frameworks to strengthen Hungary’s role in space science and technology. Ferencz Orsolya, ministerial commissioner for space research, emphasized the importance of domestic collaboration: “There is no 21st-century science without space science. To match the achievements of countries with similar populations, we need as many outstanding researchers as possible.”
Culture and Innovation Minister Balázs Hankó highlighted Hungary’s growing contributions to space technology, noting the 140 instruments in orbit involving Hungarian expertise.
The agreement was signed by leaders of major Hungarian universities, including Prof. Dr. Zita Horváth, Rector of the University of Miskolc, reinforcing the institution’s role in shaping Hungary’s space industry future.
