The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at the University of South Bohemia will open a professionally oriented bachelor’s degree program in Protection and Promotion of Health this autumn in full-time form. Graduates will have broad career opportunities, with demand for such experts increasing, particularly in institutions such as public health authorities. Recent epidemiological events, including the COVID-19 pandemic, have highlighted the shortage of qualified professionals.
The program focuses on preparing specialists for disease prevention and health protection, covering both theoretical and practical subjects such as anatomy, physiology, epidemiology, and hygiene. According to Vice-Dean for Study and Social Affairs Zuzana Freitinger-Skalická, opportunities to study public health in the Czech Republic are very limited, despite growing demand.
With its focus on healthcare, social, and safety disciplines, the faculty has the necessary resources to deliver this interdisciplinary program, which requires collaboration across sectors. It aims to equip students to actively contribute to health promotion and disease prevention, thereby improving quality of life. The newly accredited program was developed under the National Recovery Plan.
The second round of admissions is open until 23 August for this program and other bachelor’s programs, including Nutrition Therapy, Pediatric Nursing, Midwifery, Radiologic Assistance, and General Nursing. Entrance exams will take place on 27 August, with details available on the faculty’s website.
