The University of Salzburg has announced the creation of an international centre dedicated to author Stefan Zweig, who lived in the city from 1919 to 1934. The new “Stefan Zweig House,” supported by the City and Province of Salzburg, will be housed in the Neue Residenz alongside the Salzburg Museum and the new Belvedere Salzburg. Zweig’s heirs are donating valuable items from his exile years in the UK, USA, and Brazil. The centre will merge the Stefan Zweig Centre and the Salzburg Literature Archive, promoting research and public engagement with Zweig’s literary and humanist legacy. Werner Michler, Professor of Modern German Literature, will lead the institution with Martina Wörgötter and Lina Maria Zangerl.
