Eliška Vančová, a doctoral student at the Charles University Faculty of Protestant Theology, is combining academic research with pastoral work as a young pastor in Heřmanův Městec and Chrudim. From a young age, Vančová dreamed of becoming a pastor, inspired by seeing both male and female clergy serving their communities.Alongside leading church services, weddings, and pastoral counseling, she continues her doctoral studies focusing on ordained ministry within the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren. Her academic work also addresses contemporary issues in the church, including the approach toward LGBTQ+ couples.Vančová previously wrote an award-winning thesis examining attitudes toward same-sex couples within the church. Shortly after the research was completed, the church’s governing body approved a policy allowing pastors to bless same-sex couples, though the final decision remains with individual congregations and clergy.Despite the responsibilities of ministry and research, Vančová maintains personal interests such as painting, gardening, and watching science-fiction films. She believes that churches should become open and welcoming spaces where people can safely share experiences and explore faith.
