
The government of Slovenia has approved the merger of the Faculty of Polymer Technology with the University of Primorska, marking a significant development for higher education and research in advanced materials.The decision authorizes the Minister for Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Igor Papič, to sign the official agreement formalizing the integration. The merger is expected to strengthen academic programmes, research capacity, and cooperation with industry in the field of polymer materials.Over the past two decades, the Faculty of Polymer Technology has developed into a recognized institution specializing in polymer materials, which are widely used in sectors such as medicine, aviation, automotive manufacturing, sports equipment, and nanotechnology. The faculty has built strong partnerships with more than 150 industrial partners and maintains high graduate employability.With the merger, all accredited study programmes, enrolled students, and staff will transition to the university. According to the faculty’s dean, Blaž Nardin, the integration will support the development of new academic initiatives, including a doctoral programme.For the University of Primorska, the addition represents an expansion into engineering disciplines and strengthens its research profile in material sciences. Rector Klavdija Kutnar emphasized that the integration will create new opportunities for scientific collaboration and innovation while maintaining the faculty’s presence in the regional community.
