The Brno Charterhouse, founded 650 years ago by Margrave John Henry of the House of Luxembourg, marks a unique intersection of history and modern technology. Originally established as a monastic complex with a church, 12 cells for monks, and supporting buildings, the site endured wars, reforms, and military use, yet retained its historical significance.
Today, the complex houses the Faculty of Information Technology at Brno University of Technology, blending medieval architecture with cutting-edge technology. Renovations in the 21st century preserved its heritage while enabling contemporary educational use, making it a rare example of a fully standing medieval charterhouse integrated with modern research and teaching facilities.
