University of Ljubljana has announced that Professor Zvezdan Pirtosek from its Faculty of Medicine has been appointed as an independent expert on the rights of older persons by the United Nations Human Rights Council.This appointment marks the first time a representative from Slovenia has been included in the United Nations special procedures system, which brings together independent experts and special rapporteurs focusing on various human rights issues.In his new role, Professor Pirtosek will monitor the global situation of older persons’ rights, prepare reports and recommendations for member states, and contribute to the development of international policies and standards in this field.The appointment has been recognized as a significant achievement both for the professor’s professional work and for Slovenia’s presence in international human rights initiatives. Natasa Pirc Musar also extended congratulations on this milestone.
