The University of Liege has re elected Anne Sophie Nyssen as rector following the institutional elections held on April 15 and 16, 2026. She secured a strong majority with 77.17 percent of the weighted votes, confirming continued support from the university community.Her second term will officially begin on October 1, 2026. Nyssen, a professor specializing in work psychology and cognitive ergonomics, first made history in 2022 as the first woman to serve as rector of the university.The election saw participation from academic staff, scientific personnel, administrative staff, and students, reflecting a broad democratic process involving around 30000 voters. Her closest competitor, Damien Ernst, received 13.62 percent of the vote.The results highlight strong confidence in Nyssen’s leadership as she prepares to continue guiding the University of Liege through its next strategic phase.
