EDMO BELUX hosted a workshop on 2026 at RTL Luxembourg, bringing together researchers, media professionals, and policy experts to examine the dynamics of disinformation across platforms and societies in Luxembourg.Titled Exploring Disinformation Through Vulnerabilities Credibility Accountability and Inequalities, the event focused on how misleading information spreads and influences public perception. The opening session, led by Valentine François, explored how documentary formats can shape audience trust while also being used to introduce biased or misleading narratives.Inès Gentil presented case studies examining the misuse of TikTok during Romania’s presidential elections and the spread of false information related to the Southport riots in the United Kingdom. The session highlighted challenges in enforcing digital regulations and ensuring platform accountability within European legal frameworks.The final discussion, led by Geoffroy Patriarche and Trisha Meyer, addressed how disinformation both reflects and reinforces social inequalities. The session also introduced an upcoming academic publication exploring these issues in depth.Contributions from Université Le Havre Normandie and Politecnico di Milano further examined global case studies, including information control in Thailand and the complexity of distinguishing between legitimate criticism and conspiracy narratives.The workshop was organized by UCLouvain Saint Louis Bruxelles in collaboration with RTL Luxembourg and supported by Vrije Universiteit Brussel. It emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration to better understand and combat disinformation in modern societies.
