Austria | More and more students across Europe are asking themselves if it’s worth studying hard anymore, with many saying rising living costs, a weak job market and housing struggles are destroying motivation in schools.
The debate intensified after a student admitted that many classmates no longer care about grades because they feel there is “no reward” waiting after graduation.
“We study, we get degrees and then we struggle to pay rent or find stable jobs,” said the student.
Many EU students say the traditional promise of education leading to a secure future no longer feels believable, from expensive housing in university cities to increasing financial pressure on young people.
The debate has raised broader fears that Europe’s younger generation is losing confidence in the education system altogether.
