Slovenia | Researchers from the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Mechanical Engineering have developed an innovative elastocaloric cooling system that could offer a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional refrigeration. Led by Jaka Tušek and his team, the new design achieves near constant torque operation and recovers up to 70 percent of mechanical energy, with simulations suggesting efficiency could reach 88 percent. The patented technology brings elastocaloric cooling closer to commercial use and was published in the journal Nature Communications.
