The Czech Republic has entered a new phase in secure communications with the launch of its national quantum communication infrastructure, connecting key cities including Prague, Brno, and Ostrava. The initiative, known as CZQCI, is part of the broader European EuroQCI project aimed at building ultra-secure communication networks using quantum technologies. The system enables highly secure data transmission through quantum key distribution, where any interception attempt can be detected due to changes in quantum states. The project is coordinated nationally by CyberSecurityHubcz, which connects academic institutions, industry partners, and government bodies. The infrastructure represents a foundational step toward a future Europe-wide secure communication network expected to expand after 2030.Brno University of Technology plays a significant role in the initiative, particularly through its Faculty of Information Technology. Researchers, including Ondřej Ryšavý, are actively involved in deploying and testing quantum technologies, as well as contributing expertise to the project.Beyond infrastructure, CZQCI also focuses on education and innovation. The initiative includes training programs for experts and policymakers, opportunities for institutions and companies to test quantum communication, and the development of laboratory facilities equipped with advanced technologies. This milestone highlights the growing importance of quantum technologies in cybersecurity and positions the Czech Republic as a key contributor to the future of secure digital communication.
