The University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE) will once again take part in one of Hungary’s most significant contemporary theatre events, the XVI DESZKA Festival, hosted by the Csokonai National Theatre in Debrecen.
Held between 24 February and 1 March 2026, the festival celebrates contemporary Hungarian drama and brings together emerging voices, established creators, and diverse theatrical forms. Over the course of six days, audiences can enjoy productions for adults, youth, and children, alongside professional discussions, book launches, screenings, music programmes, and audience meetings.
As part of the official programme, SZFE’s third-year prose acting class, led by Ilya Bocharnikovs and Pál Oberfrank, will present Our Beloved Love Language (verbatim) on 1 March at 3:00 p.m. in the Orpheum Hall.
The festival’s guest of honour this year will be Attila Vidnyánszky Jr., instructor at the University of Theatre and Film Arts.
Preceding the main event, the Hungarian Works Review (20–21 February) will serve as a platform for companies to introduce themselves in the framework of an amateur theatre showcase. Additionally, the Roller-BOARD programme will offer independent performances aimed at younger audiences, featuring productions by the Vojtina Puppet Theatre, the Budapest Puppet Theatre, the Fairy Tale Shop, and the Ciróka Puppet Theatre.
The DESZKA Festival continues to play a vital role in promoting contemporary Hungarian drama, and SZFE’s participation further strengthens the university’s active presence in the national theatrical landscape.
