
Uniwersytet Mikołaja Kopernika, together with the city of Torun, presented the ISKRA project—Inicjatywa Sztuki, Kreatywności i Rozwoju Architektonicznego—a creative district spanning from Park Miejski to the Od Nowa club, centered on the revitalized tram depot on Sienkiewicza Street. The initiative will integrate culture, arts, gastronomy, and business, featuring a concert hall, market hall, artistic studios, and startup spaces.Prorector Joanna Kucharzewska highlighted the cultural and educational axis along Sienkiewicza Street, emphasizing the area’s historic genius loci. Prorector Adam Kola discussed addressing student drop-out and engaging young people with local opportunities, while Maria Lewicka stressed creating a lively space for residents. Torun Mayor Paweł Gulewski noted that final design decisions will involve input from students, residents, and entrepreneurs, making ISKRA a community-driven urban laboratory for the city’s future.
