Students from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM) have successfully presented their textile work in Japan, highlighting Czech craftsmanship on an international stage. In November 2025, students from the Textile Studio traveled to the foothills of Mount Fuji, where they exhibited their wool-based projects as part of the Fuji Textile Week. The exhibition featured a large-scale tapestry made from Czech sheep wool, designed for public space, along with a hands-on workshop demonstrating traditional felting techniques. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Czech Centre Tokyo, strengthening cultural exchange between the Czech Republic and Japan. As part of the project, the exhibition “Common Ground” remains open to the public at the Czech Centre Gallery in Tokyo until April 2026. The project focuses on innovative uses of raw Czech wool and explores connections between traditional materials and contemporary textile design. The journey and creative process were documented by student Eliška Gogolová and shared through UMPRUM’s online platform, offering insight into the experience of presenting European textile art in Japan.
