South East Technological University has partnered with the Dillon Quirke Foundation to launch a Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) screening pilot for sports scholars in 2026. The initiative aims to protect young athletes by providing early cardiac screening, helping prevent life-threatening heart conditions. The partnership highlights SETU’s commitment to athlete health and wellbeing, with mandatory screenings for all sports scholars and follow-up assessments in collaboration with the foundation. During the first year, up to 135 athletes will receive free cardiac checks.David Denieffe, SETU Chief Operations Officer, and Dan Quirke, Founder of the Dillon Quirke Foundation, emphasised that the initiative supports safe training, reduces risk, and promotes proactive athlete care.
