Belgium | Researchers at the University of Liege and European partner institutions have discovered how beneficial soil bacteria help plants defend themselves against diseases. The study published in Nature Plants found that a molecule called surfactin produced by Bacillus bacteria activates plant immunity by interacting directly with plant cell membranes. The discovery could support the development of next generation biopesticides and more sustainable agricultural practices.
