Portugal | A prominent botanical garden has transformed its historic cold greenhouse into an avant-garde exhibition venue for the sixth edition of a regional biennial of contemporary art. Running through early July, the exhibition focuses heavily on themes of oral transmission and auditory perception, utilizing sound as a primary artistic medium to engage visitors within natural ecosystems. The featured installation is a six-minute conceptual audio track initially conceived for an international arts festival. Accessible via specialized headphones inside the greenhouse, the artwork uses spoken words and instructional guidance to challenge the listener’s creative self-perception, prompting them to mentally illustrate natural elements like grass. Organized collaboratively by local arts circles, the university, and the municipality, the broader contemporary art festival spans multiple historical sites, municipal museums, and cultural centers across the city to deliver interactive public installations and educational art forums.
