Austria | Mozarteum University Salzburg has officially announced its upcoming annual network event for alumni and emeriti, scheduled for June 23, 2026. This year’s gathering pairs a community cocktail reception with the highly anticipated world premiere of Agamemnon, a contemporary five-act opera commissioned directly by the university. The newly minted opera features music composed by Vid Ožbolt, a master’s student studying under acclaimed composition professor Sarah Nemtsov. The libretto, adapted and abridged from classical Latin literature, was developed by Alexander von Pfeil, who also serves as the production’s stage director. The premiere performance will unfold under the musical direction of conductor Gernot Sahler. The event program kicks off at 5:00 PM in the Max Schlereth Saal with an intimate artist talk, offering behind-the-scenes insights into the composition and staging processes. Following the talk, Rector Constanze Wimmer will host a drinks reception in the university foyer at 5:30 PM to welcome returning graduates and retired faculty before the curtains rise for the main opera performance at 7:00 PM. Eligible attendees are required to reserve their seats in advance via the university’s dedicated alumni alliance network email.
