Ireland | ucd.ie is leading SHIELD-6G, a major €8 million Horizon Europe-funded project aimed at strengthening the security of future 6G communication networks. The initiative brings together 19 partners from across Europe to develop an AI-powered cyber threat intelligence platform capable of detecting vulnerabilities and coordinating responses to cyberattacks with minimal human intervention.Led by Associate Professor Madhusanka Liyanage, the project will combine artificial intelligence with privacy-preserving technologies to create secure, resilient, and trustworthy next-generation networks. Researchers say SHIELD-6G will help future communications systems anticipate, detect, and recover from cyber threats in real time. The consortium includes global technology company thalesgroup.com, academic institutions, multinational firms, and SMEs. UCD spin-out company MBP Network Technology will also contribute by helping translate advanced 6G research into practical security solutions for telecom operators, critical infrastructure providers, and industrial IoT applications. The project is expected to play a significant role in ensuring Europe remains at the forefront of secure and intelligent digital connectivity as 6G technologies continue to evolve.
