
Ireland | Researchers at ucc.ie will lead three major national research centres under Ireland’s newly launched Rinn research network, securing a combined investment of €244 million.UCC will lead Rinn Energy, focused on accelerating the decarbonisation of Ireland’s energy system, while its research flagship, Tyndall National Institute, will head Rinn Semiconductors to advance next-generation chip technologies. UCC will also co-lead Rinn Artificial Intelligence, a national hub for AI and data science research.The seven newly announced Rinn centres will receive a total first-phase investment of €460 million over the next eight years. The initiative aims to strengthen Ireland’s research capacity, support industry partnerships, attract investment, and address major challenges in energy, technology, healthcare, and artificial intelligence.UCC researchers are also contributing to Rinn Pharma and Biopharma and Rinn Advanced Therapies, expanding the university’s role across all seven centres. The programme is expected to attract an additional €500 million in funding from industry and other partners, involving more than 200 organisations.University leaders described the Rinn network as a major step forward for Ireland’s research and innovation ecosystem, helping drive scientific breakthroughs and train future generations of researchers.
