Finland | Åbo Akademi University has announced that the Euro-BioImaging hub in Turku has secured significant funding through the Horizon Europe initiative, strengthening the city’s role as a leading European center for biological and biomedical imaging. The funding supports participation in 12 major European research and development projects, with a combined value of around €60 million. Approximately €10 million will directly support activities coordinated from Turku. These projects focus on key areas such as artificial intelligence-driven research infrastructures, pandemic preparedness, biotechnology, environmental health, and sustainable data solutions. From its headquarters in Turku, Euro-BioImaging plays a central role in coordinating international collaboration and providing access to advanced imaging technologies, including high-resolution microscopy, PET, and MRI. These tools enable researchers to better understand diseases, study drug interactions, and analyze biological responses to environmental changes. The initiative is built on strong cooperation between Åbo Akademi University and the University of Turku, alongside a wider European network of around 300 imaging facilities across 18 countries. The funding further strengthens Turku’s position as a hub for innovation, research infrastructure, and cross-border scientific collaboration.
