Czech Republic | Charles University recently organized a public panel discussion to honor the legacy of Jan Sokol, marking what would have been his 90th birthday, along with the fifth anniversary of his passing. The event, held on April 20, 2026, also coincided with the 25th anniversary of the Faculty of Humanities, which Sokol co-founded.Titled “Jan Sokol – Public Intellectual,” the discussion brought together notable figures from cultural, political, and academic life, including Michal Horacek, Magdalena Vasarova, and Tomas Sedlacek. Moderated by journalist Stepan Sedlacek, the panel explored Sokol’s influence as both a thinker and a public figure.Speakers reflected on Sokol’s role in establishing the Faculty of Humanities and his belief that intellectuals must actively engage in public discourse.
