Denmark | Researchers from the Technical University of Denmark, in collaboration with Sophion Bioscience, have developed a groundbreaking laboratory platform called Ethica M that uses living human heart tissue to test new medicines.Unlike traditional methods that rely on single cells, this platform uses tissue grown from stem cells, allowing scientists to observe how drugs affect organ-like structures. The system can reduce testing costs by up to 90 percent and significantly cut the use of animal testing.Ethica M also delivers results up to 72 times faster than existing technologies, helping pharmaceutical companies identify safe and effective treatments earlier. Since its launch in 2025, the platform has already been adopted by companies in Europe and the United States. The innovation is expected to accelerate drug development while improving safety and efficiency in the pharmaceutical industry.
