Ireland | Ministers Marian Harkin and James Lawless have officially announced the launch of two new Level 8 degree apprenticeships at Atlantic Technological University (ATU). The programs include a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Quantity Surveying, designed to create a sustainable pipeline of skilled professionals to support national housing and infrastructure goals. The initiative is backed by a €79 million funding expansion for apprenticeships in Budget 2026, which marks the highest core investment in the sector to date and more than doubles total annual delivery funding since 2020. Developed in close collaboration with industry partners, the new work-study paths will provide students with intensive, hands-on industrial experience. The programs are part of a broader roll-out aimed at supporting the government’s long-term target of 12,500 annual apprentice registrations by 2030 while driving regional talent retention across the West and North-West.
