Widely used in industries such as renewable energy, transportation, and manufacturing, plastics are valued for their flexibility and low cost. However, their recycling and environmental impact remain major concerns.At the university, research is centered on two main areas: developing bio based polymers from renewable resources and improving recycling methods. One promising approach involves breaking down plastics into oil and gas through advanced processes, which can then be reused in the chemical industry.Akesson and his team are also working to understand polymer behavior at the molecular level, aiming to create biodegradable materials and improve circular use.
