University of Jyväskylä has clarified how participants are recruited for university research studies, following public attention on a recent media report. The university explained that participation in research is always voluntary, free of charge, and based on strict ethical and data protection guidelines.Research participants are primarily recruited through public calls published on the university website and through faculty communication channels. In some cases, individuals may also be contacted directly using population register data or prior consent given in earlier studies. The university emphasised that all participants receive detailed information sheets and sufficient time to consider participation before giving consent. Studies are typically conducted on university premises, such as the Sport and Health Laboratory at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences.According to the university, participants may also receive personal feedback as part of certain studies, for example on fitness or health indicators. Each study is led by a designated principal investigator responsible for ensuring ethical and proper conduct. The announcement reinforces the importance of transparency, voluntary participation, and research integrity in all university-led studies.
