Representatives from University of Maribor participated in a meeting of European university network coordinators held in Brussels on April 2026. The delegation included Rector Zdravko Kačič and senior university officials, representing the European University alliance ATHENA.The meeting focused on key topics shaping the future of European higher education, including the long term sustainability of university networks, strengthening interinstitutional cooperation, innovation in education and mobility, and the future direction of the European Universities initiative.Currently, most European university alliances receive direct funding and represent a significant portion of the European higher education landscape. Discussions with representatives of the European Commission highlighted the importance of collaboration, shared knowledge, and strategic development.Participation in the ATHENA alliance reinforces the university’s commitment to contributing to a more connected, inclusive, and innovative European education system.
