Finland| University of Vaasa is developing a new functionally bilingual teaching model to strengthen international students’ Finnish language skills and improve their employment opportunities in Finland. The initiative, part of the Kielipolku project funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture, integrates Finnish language learning into English-taught degree programmes so students can develop both academic and workplace language skills simultaneously. The model includes personalised language study plans, bilingual teaching methods, language-supported internships, and peer support through a Language Buddy system. It will be piloted in the Bachelor’s Programme in Business Administration during 2026–2027.University staff emphasize that the goal is to create a scalable approach where language learning becomes a natural part of academic studies and professional preparation.🗞️
