A growing number of international students say basic university life is becoming increasingly difficult as campuses move essential services entirely to mobile apps and digital platforms.
From attendance tracking and class schedules to cafeteria payments, transport access, accommodation requests, and even mental health appointments, students report that nearly everything now requires multiple apps, constant notifications, and stable internet access. Many say the system becomes overwhelming during the first semester, especially for students adjusting to a new country and language.
Some students also complain about verification failures linked to foreign phone numbers, banking apps, or ID systems that do not work smoothly for non-local users. Others describe missing important deadlines simply because announcements were scattered across different platforms.
Student groups argue that universities are underestimating the “digital adaptation stress” faced by newcomers. While institutions promote technology as a convenience, many learners say the experience often feels fragmented and confusing rather than efficient.
The issue is becoming more visible across international education communities, where students are now calling for simplified systems, centralized communication platforms, and better onboarding support for first-year international students.
