A new research project at the Université de Namur uses photography to investigate the geopolitical, economic, and environmental dimensions of nuclear energy. Led by Danielle Leenaerts from the Department of Archaeology and Art Sciences, the project combines an exhibition, a book, and a study day to make nuclear issues visible and encourage public debate. The exhibition, titled (Faire) face au nucléaire, runs from March 28 to August 2, 2026, at the Delta in Namur. It presents works by ten Belgian and international photographers, highlighting the full spectrum of nuclear topics: waste management, civil and military uses, decommissioning, and activism. The book, also titled (Faire) face au nucléaire, offers deeper analysis, context, and a nuanced presentation of the artists’ perspectives. The project emphasizes the power of art and photography to translate abstract nuclear challenges into tangible experiences, fostering societal reflection on energy policy, environmental risks, and human responsibility. Complementary activities include a study day on March 27, 2026, bringing together scientific and artistic viewpoints.
