
Hungary| The University of Miskolc has officially opened its innovative Earth Day Garden, transforming an old auditorium into a vibrant green space that highlights sustainability and environmental awareness. Created under the theme The Voice of Nature, the installation features terrariums and self-sustaining mini ecosystems built inside bottles and glass containers, capable of thriving for years with minimal care.The project reflects the university’s long-term commitment to sustainability. University leadership emphasized ongoing efforts such as the use of renewable energy sources, including geothermal systems and solar panels, as well as continuous campus greening initiatives. The nearly 90 hectare campus is regularly expanded with new trees, reinforcing its reputation as one of the greenest university environments.The opening event also showcased student innovation through a cardboard furniture competition focused on eco friendly design. Students were challenged to create functional furniture using recyclable materials, combining creativity with sustainability principles. Winning designs included a full furniture collection, a coffee table, and a uniquely shaped bench, with top participants receiving scholarships.The event was further enriched by a live musical performance, creating a blend of art, science, and environmental consciousness. Through initiatives like the Earth Day Garden, the University of Miskolc continues to promote sustainable thinking and hands on learning among its students and academic community.
