Hungary | Matías Salazar, an undergraduate student enrolled in the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) program at Corvinus University of Budapest, secured second place at the inaugural “Ethics in Business” national competition. Competing alongside his team, The Equilibrium, Salazar reached the podium during the final round hosted at János Neumann University. The national event attracted 38 student teams representing nine higher education institutions across Hungary. After advancing through an initial remote case-study round, the top six teams competed in a live, 120-minute, open-book final where they evaluated and presented structural solutions to a complex business ethics scenario before a five-member expert jury. The tournament served as the culmination of an intensive eighteen-month project commissioned by the Bács-Kiskun County Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Designed to cultivate ethical leadership among young economic actors, the broader initiative has driven several regional developments, including updating the Chamber’s core Code of Ethics, publishing an open-access corporate Compliance Guide for micro-enterprises, and auditing contemporary ethical education methods across Hungarian universities. Organizers anticipate the business ethics competition will return as an annual event.
