
Hungary | The University of Pécs hosted the inaugural conference of the CHERISH project, an international initiative aimed at improving inclusion and academic success for disadvantaged students, particularly those from Romani communities.The project, titled Croatia Hungary And Romani Inclusive Solutions For Harmonized Education, is supported by the European Union under the Interreg Hungary Croatia Programme. It is being carried out in partnership with Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek.Held at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the conference introduced the project’s goals, which include reducing dropout rates and increasing participation in higher education among underrepresented groups. Organizers emphasized building a supportive academic environment through collaboration, student engagement, and targeted educational strategies.Vice Dean Beatrix Lábadi highlighted the importance of strengthening both institutional cooperation and student communities, especially for those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. The project also aims to develop student-centered initiatives such as training programs, joint academic activities, and inclusive student organizations.Speakers outlined plans to establish supportive structures like student colleges and expand cooperation between educators and researchers. The initiative promotes cross border collaboration between Hungary and Croatia while encouraging diversity and equal opportunity in higher education.The conference marked the first major step in the CHERISH project, showcasing its commitment to fostering inclusion, academic success, and international cooperation.
