Belgium | A major campus infrastructure modernization project has accelerated operations following the installation of heavy construction machinery to meet strict European Recovery Plan funding deadlines. The comprehensive renovation project focuses on transitioning historical academic facilities into highly sustainable, energy-efficient spaces. The current phase of the transformation features the installation of a massive photovoltaic canopy across the roof network, comprising roughly 900 solar panels. Once operational, the system is projected to generate 235,000 kWh of renewable energy annually. To maximize thermal efficiency, the structural overhaul includes dense roof insulation and the complete replacement of three large historic glass skylights.Following the completion of the roofing and structural reinforcements this summer, subsequent development phases scheduled through 2028 will focus on a full restoration of the building’s exterior facades and a modern interior redesign. The completed facility will house state-of-the-art engineering laboratories, research offices, a dining hall, and a shared 450-seat lecture auditorium.
