Denmark | King Frederik of Denmark visited Aalborg University on 8 May 2026 to officially name four newly discovered bacterial species identified in the “Microflora Danica” research project. The project mapped Denmark’s microbiology by analyzing over 10,000 samples from various environments using advanced DNA sequencing technology. The named bacteria include Graastenia ingridihorti, Gribskovia venatica, and Querciregia multidomus, discovered near royal residencies, and Margrethea Danica, named in honor of Queen Margrethe. This large-scale mapping effort has been published in the journal Nature and aims to provide deeper insights into nitrogen turnover and greenhouse gas formations within local ecosystems.
