
Ireland | Mary Immaculate College lecturer Dr Susan Liddy has been named Limerick Person of the Month for April 2026 in recognition of her significant contributions to media, film, and gender equality advocacy.Dr Liddy, who teaches Media and Communication Studies at MIC, also serves as President of Women in Film and Television International and Chair of Women in Film and Television Ireland. She is widely recognised for her leadership in promoting diversity and inclusion within the global screen industry.Earlier this year, she played a key role in organising a major international summit in Adare, Ireland, which brought together filmmakers, broadcasters, actors, and producers from around the world. The event strengthened Limerick’s position as an emerging hub for international cultural exchange and film industry dialogue.In addition to her international work, Dr Liddy is the founder and director of the Catalyst International Film Festival, now in its seventh year. The festival is known for its strong focus on gender equality, diversity, and representation in cinema and has become an important cultural event in Ireland.Following the announcement, Dr Liddy expressed gratitude for the recognition, highlighting her continued commitment to both international collaboration and local cultural development through film and media initiatives.Her colleagues at Mary Immaculate College praised her long-standing dedication, noting her influence in shaping both academic study and real-world media practice, as well as her ongoing efforts to promote inclusion in the arts.
