Austria | Gunpreet Coudert Oberoi from the Medical University of Vienna has been named Female Startup of the Year 2026 at the glaubandich Challenge 2026.Oberoi is the founder and CEO of SVAN Technologies GmbH, a university spin-off focused on advancing precision in medical procedures. The company has developed an intelligent auto-stop drilling system designed to improve safety during sensitive interventions.At the core of the innovation is a patented sensor technology that detects tissue resistance in real time and automatically halts drilling at critical moments. This significantly reduces the risk of complications, especially in emergency and high-risk procedures.The system’s first application targets intraosseous access for emergency care, while further developments are underway for use in neurosurgery. The project reflects a strong integration of clinical expertise, biomedical research, and entrepreneurship within the university environment.The achievement also highlights the growing importance of supporting female-led startups in research and innovation, where women remain underrepresented.
